Public Use Computers

The Daly City Public Library provides access to computers
with internet and Microsoft Office applications at all four
locations (scroll down for details).
A valid library card is required to use the 1-hour computers. Express Stations providing 15-minute access for visitors are available at all locations. For guests from out of the State/Country, a 30-day Guest Computer Use Card providing full 1 hour access may be purchased for $10. Our computers are managed by the same timing and print management software used at all libraries in the Peninsula Library System (PLS). |
Time Limit: 1 hour/day per person, enforced by timing software (time used at one library will count at all other PLS libraries).
Reservations: there is one computer with internet access and Microsoft Office at each location that may be reserved online up to 2 days in advance (reservations are held for 5 minutes only). All other computers are available on a first come-first served basis.
Printing: all printing is 15¢ per page (black and white, laser quality). Printing must be pre-paid and each user needs to set up a print account. Unused funds remain in the account and can be used at any PLS library.
Saving: you can save to either a floppy disk or a USB flash drive at all Daly City libraries. Floppy disks are on sale for $1 and USB flash drives for $15. There are no accessible CD or DVD drives on library computers.
Restrictions: for security reasons, nothing may be saved or installed on the hard drive of a library computer and CD-ROM drives are not accessible.
Privacy: the Library respects and protects the privacy of all users. A library card is required for computer use so that the software can enforce time limits, thus assuring that everyone gets a chance to use the computers. The computer’s record of internet sites visited is automatically deleted when you log off.
