Hours

This is a part-time position of approximately 10-15 hours per week.

Library Aides must be able to work a schedule which would include a combination of shifts during the following hours:

Saturdays:

College students must arrange their class schedules to accommodate the needs of the Library. We will work with you to the maximum extent possible and will readjust schedules as semesters change, but the shifts noted above are the framework within which we operate.

Salary

Starting salary for this position is $11.29 per hour. There are no medical or vacation benefits for this position.

Requirements

You must be at least 16 years of age to be hired, although high-school aged staff are usually employed as Library Pages rather than Library Aides.

You must be willing to remain employed for at least one year after hire.

Duties

A Library Aide works with full-time Library Assistants to assist the public at the circulation desk. You will use an automated system to check books in and out, register patrons, and collect and record fines and fees. Intensive training is scheduled for at least the first two weeks of employment. Ongoing, on-the-job training continues thereafter.

A Library Aide is 'on the front lines' performing public service with patrons from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. A Library Aide must be able to represent the Library in a credible manner. Library Aides are not Librarians and must be able to make appropriate referrals to Librarians rather than attempt to answer seemingly simple questions. This is a very critical practice.

You would be good for this job if

· You can understand and operate a computer well
· You have worked with the public
· You have good work habits (i.e. following procedures, dependable, etc.)

You should fill out an application if this sounds appealing to you.

Do not call to check on the status of an application. There are no current job openings. Applications remain on file for one year and are reviewed as vacancies occur. After one year you must re-apply to have your name remain in our files.
