Hours
This is a part-time position of approximately 10 hours per week.
Library Pages must be able to work at least one evening, Monday through
Thursday from 6:00pm-9:00pm, rotating Saturdays from 2:00pm-5:00pm,
and rotating Sundays from 1:00pm-4:00pm when open. Otherwise, schedules
are negotiable depending on your availability and the needs of the
Library.
Salary
Starting salary for this position is $7.82 per hour. There are no medical
or vacation benefits for this position.
Requirements
You must be at least 16 years of age to be hired.
You must be willing to remain employed for at least one year after
hire.
Duties
The duty of a Library Page is primarily to shelve books, magazines,
and other materials. You will be trained but must be able to work
well with filing both alphabetically and numerically. Accuracy is
vital - your mistakes will be pointed out to you until you get it
right. Speed is also a consideration - experienced Pages shelve about
80-100 books per hour.
A Library Page does not work directly with the public nor closely
with other staff. You are expected to perform your duties quietly
and capably. There is little opportunity for social interaction.
The duties of a Library Page on a day-to-day basis are often routine,
mundane, and boring. It is important, however, that you maintain a
focus of concentration so as to avoid errors in shelving.
The job a of a Library Page is one of the most important ones in
the whole library. Books need to be able to be found where they are
supposed to be.
You would be good for this job if
· You are neat and orderly
· You can perform repetitive work accurately
· You have good work habits (i.e. reporting on time, dependable,
etc.)
