Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health

Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health, 2002. 5 vols. (an e-book): Written for students and professionals in the field. Entries cover topics in body systems and functions, conditions and common diseases, issues and theories, techniques and practices, and devices and equipment. Also discusses the roles of all major health professionals.

Seton Medical Center

Seton Medical Center Health Sciences Library: staffed by medical librarians dedicated to meeting the medical and health information needs of both health professionals and the public. Seton Medical Center also offers a wide range of free health programs, classes and support groups to members of the community.
Cooking Up Wellness: Free cooking and nutrition classes from the Doelger Senior Center. Classes are offered at several different times and locations. The main focus of this program is to educate seniors about cooking techniques, sanitation and safety in the kitchen. new healthy recipes, basic nutrition and health, and low cost, simple meals.
Peninsula Stroke Association: The Peninsula Stroke Association (PSA) is a not-for-profit organization serving the people of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in California. PSA’s mission is to reduce the incidence of stroke through education and to help alleviate stroke’s devastating aftermath through programs to support survivors and caregivers.
San Mateo County Paratransit: Public transportation for persons with disabilities who cannot independently use regular SamTrans bus service some of the time or all of the time. The San Mateo County Transit District paratransit using Redi-Wheels on the bayside of the county and RediCoast on the coastside. Trips must be prearranged.
Daly City ACCESS: A wellness program for adults 50 years and older providing advocacy and support services relating to key issues involving recreation, fitness, nutrition, technology, transportation, multilingual information and referral, volunteer leadership, and cultural pride.

MEDLINEplus: authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other government, non-profit and other health-related organizations. Includes a database of full-text drug information and an illustrated medical encyclopedia. Also available in Spanish.
healthfinder: a resource for finding the best government and nonprofit health and human services information on the Internet from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Includes links to carefully selected information and Web sites from over 1,800 health-related organizations. Also available in Spanish.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): disease prevention and health information, including information for travellers, from the lead Federal health agency. Also available in Spanish.
Mayo Clinic: easy-to-understand information on health and medical topics, including an A-Z reference on diseases and conditions, a prescription and over-the-counter drug database, and a first aid guide. From the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.
familydoctor.org: questions and answers on common health concerns, information on common medications, herbal remedies and dietary supplements, and advice on what you can treat at home and when to call your doctor. From the American Academy of Family Physicians. Also available in Spanish.
KidsHealth: health information about children from before birth through adolescence. Created by The Nemours Foundation. Provides separate areas for kids, teens, and parents - each with its own design, age-appropriate content, and tone. Each section has some information available in Spanish.

NOAH: New York Online Access to Health provides links to reliable health care information easily accessible and understandable to the layperson. Also available in Spanish.
Medem Library: an extensive collection of patient education information from respected medical societies.
Virtual Hospital: a digital health sciences library created by the University of Iowa to help meet the information needs of health care providers and patients. A Virtual Children's Hospital provides pediatic information.
Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy online: the full-text of the respected medical reference online and searchable.
Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary online: find definitions for complex medical terms from this professional medical reference online.
